DJ’s city bike

I got this note this morning from my son. It was so good and encouraging I felt I should share it. So with his permission here it is in its entirety.
Hey, I heard some good news, that you guys are tacking new action in life I’m excited for you and I really pray that it becomes the catalyst for amazing things for you both.
In light of that, I wanted to share a note that I wrote to myself a couple months ago, mostly just some thoughts about being the kind of person we want to be. Nothing here is revolutionary, but I hope it encourages and you both to continue trying to be the best YOU that you can be

Decide that you are going to do something
You recognize the status quo is unacceptable and something must change. Also you know that, if nothing changes, nothing changes. So agree with yourself that something must change and that you must be the one to change it. From there you know that something *will* happen. You may not know the outcome, but you’ve agreed with yourself to try something different. We can cope with the results later.

You are not the sum of what you own
You have things, you buy things, but, you don’t work to buy things and you dont live to own them. They’re just transient tools and comforts that help you do or enjoy the activity you do better! Don’t worry about the things, instead, focus on the life you want to live, focus on the result you want, and you’ll find the other stuff falls into place better.

You are not your failures or your successes, you are your potential
Your successes and failures are a result of the combined effect of what you bring to a situation and what a situation brings to you. Sure, there are places where you can make adjustments to help mitigate failures and help improve successes, but recognize that there are limits to how much you can change this by directly focusing on it.
With Love- Dustin
